LAND’S END 2 JOHN O’GROATS

Cycle the length of the UK

16-26 May 2026

£2250pp all inclusive*

(£+850 optional single supplement)

The classic British cycling challenge that was first completed by Alfred Nixon in 1882.
We’ve created an outstandingly beautiful route, keeping to quieter country roads and taking in some fantastic scenery along the way. From the typically English countryside to the remote and rugged highlands of Scotland.

This is a fully supported route; we will provide the route and cycle guide to help with navigation as well as support vehicle(s) with highly trained crew and mechanics, as well as much needed snacks and water. All meals and accommodation will also be provided. Training plans and opportunity to connect with training buddies will be provided before the event – we will all be a team together 🙂

*Payment can be made in instalments of 5 months x £380, + £350 deposit. Please contact us if you wish to pay in instalments.

This is a charity challenge in which riders are kindly asked to fundraise and contribute to the two charities supported by this event: Meningitis Now and Get A Head.

“Barney Adlington at age 3 and a half lost his life to meningitis in 2005 and his dad and sister Lily, are both taking part in the challenge. Get A Head is A Charity very close to our hearts with close Family friends leading the charge to eradicate this awful disease, after their whole family was found to harbour the gene that causes this cancer.
The best thing is , is that we aren’t cyclists, and we are training to do this challenge in 10 days, 100 miles a day for 10 days. Guy Minshull is also joining us . Guy was an integral part of The Brightsides crew that rowed The Atlantic, raising money for the same two charities in 2024.”

We are welcoming more competitors, cyclists, feel free to get involved , and be able to fit this epic challenge onto your CV !

Crewe – Kendal

20-05-26  Day 5
100 miles

Kendal – Moffatt

21-05-26  Day 6    90 miles

Moffatt –
Perth

22-05-26  Day 7     95 miles The scenery and population density quickly changes as we pass through the Scottish borders and its remote valleys, forests and lochs. We follow the river Tweed to the stunning capital city of Edinburgh, cycling over the Forth Road Bridge and reaching Perth.

Perth – Grantown on Spey

23-05-26  Day 8    95 miles An epic ride with some big climbs as we continue on through the Cairngorms and taking on the Glen Shee and Lecht Pass. An 1800m elevation day, but our legs will be well-trained by this point to relish the challenge.

Grantown – Lairg

24-05-26  Day 9    92 miles Our penultimate day we are rewarded with remote landscape and uninterrupted riding with quiet roads. Once we leave Inverness behind, we are now deep in the Highlands. Our ride finishes in Lairg on the edge of Loch Shin.

FAQS

What’s the cycling like? We’d give the cycling a 4/5 difficulty rating.  Expect to cycle 90-100 miles per day and be out on the road from 7.30am every day. Some parts of the UK can be quite hilly, with changeable levels of road surface quality. We’ve chosen as quiet a route as possible, however, expect to navigate busier sections or areas with denser populations. In temr sof hills: what goes up must come down so expect speedy exhilarating descents and some seriously epic backdrops. Riders are expected to be fairly experienced in bike handling and must always ride within their limits.

What’s the weather like? The weather in the UK can be 4 seasons in a day. Mornings are cooler but at this time of teh year, days are long with lots of sunlight. Expect showers or sometimes heavy rain as will as hot sunny spells where you’ll need sun cream. Travelling in this direction gives us a greater chance of having the wind behind us, but be prepared for gusty weather particularly by the sea or in the hills.

What’s the food like? Food is fuel. For this our food on the road will be simple but nourishing. A mixture of soups and sandwiches, pie and chips, pastries, cakes, as well as healthy fruit, nuts and protein bars / flapjack from our snack stops. We will always aim to stop in places where there is the opportunity to buy something to your taste or extra hot drinks, sweets, chocolate, etc.

What’s the accommodation like?  Accommodation is on a twin-sharing basis. We will stay in 2-3* hotels along the route and may stay in an upmarket hostel in the Highlands. If you would like your own room, this can be requested as a single supplement at +£850pp. Single supplement cannot be guaranteed in the Highlands depending on group size and due to availability.

What travel and transfers are included? You must organise your own travel to the start location and onward travel from Inverness on Day 11. There will be a transfer from the finish at John O’Groats to our hotel in Inverness on Day 10. Our support vehicle will always be on hand to give you a lift if you are not able to ride a section.

Do I need to bring my own bike? Yes, you will need to provide your own bike for the ride.

I have dietary needs, can they be catered for? Yes, please let us know in advance and on your sign up form.

Can I drink alcohol? Alcohol is not provided as part of the package, however you can purchase drinks separately. The invitation  is to embrace sobriety, to nourish your body with healthy food, look after your body and be topped up with restorative practices so that you really get the most out of the experience.

What level of fitness do I need for the activities?  It would be recommended that you are accustomed or capable of rides around 80-100 miles with hills. Although the ride itself will certainly improve your overall fitness and endurance, we also invite you to listen and look after your body. There will always be a support car on hand if you are unable to ride a section due to injury or fatigue.

What do I need to pack? We will send a pack list nearer the time.

I like to eat meat, is that available? Yes, all diets can be catered for.

Are there bugs and mosquitos? Mosquitos are minimal, however, due to the climate there can be some bitey bugs around. If you are prone to insect bites, please bring repellent. In Scotland, it will not yet be midgey season but we recommend packing lightweight long layers just incase.

Do I need travel/bike insurance? Yes. It is essential that you have travel insurance that covers cycling. Yellow jersey is often a good provider. It is sensible to also have bike insurance with public liability cover for your own peace of mind.

What if I need to cancel? Deposits are 100% non-refundable unless the ride is cancelled by Bike Where You Like or our local suppliers. If not already paid, the full cost of the trip will be invoiced 6 months in advance and is non-refundable 90 days before commencement. Please let us know asap at mel@bikewhereyoulike.com if you cannot make it.
